Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is unlikely to play Friday in the preseason opener against the Bengals.
Holmes injured rib cartilage Saturday in an intrasquad scrimmage and is officially listed as doubtful, coach Rex Ryan said Monday.
"we're lucky he never had a fractured rib like we thought," Ryan said, "so that's a good sign."
The Jets don't know the status of wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, who hasn't practiced in a week because of a hamstring injury. Ryan said the team is beginning to have concern about Kerley but only because he's losing an opportunity to show "he has the offense down."
Rookies Stephen Hill and Jordan White, who has had a good camp but was a seventh-round pick, figure prominently into the team's plan Friday night. Ryan said he has no interest in adding another receiver to the roster -- at present, the Jets have 11 on the roster -- even with so many questions behind Holmes, who hasn't made it through consecutive full practices yet this summer.
