Jets' Santonio Holmes calls Panthers' secondary "weak"
New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes doesn't hold the Carolina Panthers' secondary in high regard.
"Not to call those guys out, but their secondary is probably their weakest link on their defense," the mercurial Holmes told New York reporters.
The Jets, of course, ranks 30th in passing offense behind rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who leads the NFL with 23 turnovers.
The Panthers rank second overall in defense and have 16 interceptions. The Panthers rank fifth in pass defense.
"Just from a numbers perspective and guys in their position, nothing from my perspective puts those guys in [the elite] category," Holmes said. "It's the way they're ranked throughout the NFL. It's not my perspective."
