Toronto's Colby Rasmus was hit in the face by a ball while jogging to his spot in the outfield for the bottom of the first inning and left Friday night's game in Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.
Rasmus was not looking when outfielder Anthony Gose appeared to throw a warm-up toss in his direction as he was trotting out to center field. The ball struck Rasmus near his left eye and he dropped to the ground.
After being examined by a trainer, Rasmus was escorted off the field and taken to the clubhouse for further examination.
Gose moved from right field to center and Rajai Davis from left to right. and Kevin Pillar was sent into the game to play left field.
Rasmus had come back from a strained oblique injury on Sept. 13 after being out for a month. In five games since his return, he had six hits, four homers and six RBIs but did not get an at-bat on Friday.
