Arizona Coyotes veteran forward Shane Doan was involved in a collision with teammate Jakob Chychrun during warm-ups before their home game against the Colorado Avalanche. Doan missed the start of the game as he was being evaluated by the team, but eventually returned.

The 40-year-old Doan was skating around in his own zone and appeared to be looking at a puck in his skates and didn’t see the 19-year-old rookie who was skating backwards. Chychrun’s helmet flew off after the big hit occurred.

While Doan was listed in the lineup, he was not on the ice or on the bench when the Coyotes came out to start the game. Fortunately for the Coyotes and Doan, he did return and had his first shift at the 14:06 mark of the first frame.

After the game, a 1-0 Coyotes win, Doan said he spent time in the NHL’s concussion protocol. He added that he just got the wind knocked out of him but he was fine.

“I had no idea who it was that hit me,” Doan said. “I haven’t been hit that hard in a long, long time.”
