Inside President Obama's Star-Studded White House Birthday Celebration

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!

Barack Obama’s 55th birthday was his last birthday celebration at the White House – and he sure went out with a bang!

The 44th President of the United States partied on Friday night with a superstar (and private) event thrown by wife Michelle Obama.

“The First Lady is hosting a 55th birthday celebration for the President at the White House,” a rep for the White House told PEOPLE in a statement on Friday. “The guest list includes a large number of family members and friends to mark the occasion.”

That it did! On Friday, The New York Post’s Page Six reported guests would include Beyoncé, Jay Z, Obama’s favorite rapper Kendrick Lamar, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia De Rossi, Sarah Jessica Parker, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Magic Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Usher.

Politicos expected to attend included Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

While social media appeared to be dark during the actual event, many of the president’s party guests shared pics both before and after the party.

White House journalist April Ryan confirmed DeGeneres’ attendance, taking a selfie with the talk show host as they both left the party.

Ryan also confirmed performances by Usher and Stevie Wonder, telling her Instagram followers that rapper Common was also in attendance. She posted snaps of Rev. Al Sharpton and Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, too, and name-dropped Fonzworth Bentley.

Sharpton called the event “a great celebration” on Twitter, before positing a picture of him and girlfriend Aisha McShaw.

Nick Jonas took a break from his tour with Demi Lovato to swing by the festivities. He later called the evening “A night I will never forget” on Twitter.

Magic Johnson and his wife Cookie both posted the same sweet selfie, as they got ready to go to the party.

The basketball legend – looking dapper in a royal blue suit and white button-down shirt – was all smiles next to his wife, who wore a black Stella McCartney jumpsuit, Prada shoes and a Tom Ford bag.

“Can’t wait to get down – I have on my dancing shoes,” Cookie wrote in her post.

“Our President knows how to throw a great party,” she said then on Saturday, in an Instagram photo posted with the hashtag #AboutLastNight.

“We had so much fun, I can barely walk today, LOL,” she captioned the shot of her and her husband with friends Samuel L. Jackson and LaTanya Richardson. “Happy Birthday Mr. President!!!”

Al Roker and his wife Deborah Roberts were there too, posing for a sweet snap on the steps of the White House.

Photographed entering the party were Star Wars director George Lucas and Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, as well as Obama senior advisor David Alexrod, and Democratic National Committee Interim Chair Donna Brazile.

Retired basketball player Grant Hill and his Canadian singer wife Tamia went too, sending their best wishes to the birthday before beforehand.

The private event was paid for with the family’s personal funds, a White House representative told PEOPLE.

On Thursday – Obama’s actual birthday – First Lady Michelle Obama recognized her husband’s special day on her Instagram, sharing a sweet photo of her touching Obama’s chin and grinning widely.

“55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day,” she wrote. “Happy birthday, Barack. I love you.”

On Saturday, the First Family left the White House to kick off their annual two-week vacation at Martha’s Vineyard.
