The Cleveland Indians re-signed pitchers Daisuke Matsuzaka and Matt Capps to minor league deals, the team announced Tuesday.
The Indians had released the duo recently to avoid paying a $100,000 retention bonuses. The two veteran righties likely will head to Triple-A Columbus.
Matsuzaka made 11 starts last year in his final season for the Boston Red Sox but posted a 8.28 ERA in 45 2/3 innings after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He is 50-37 for his career, including an 18-3 mark in 2008.
Capps spent the previous 2 1/2 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. He worked only 29 1/3 innings last year but recorded 14 saves before a shoulder injury kept him out most of the second half.
