The Indians snapped an 11-game losing streak Wednesday, but that wasn't enough to save pitching coach Scott Radinsky's job.
Radisnky was fired Thursday and replaced on an interim basis by Ruben Niebla, the pitching coach for Class AAA Columbus. Niebla has been with the organization for 12 years, and five pitchers on the Indians' current staff played for him at Columbus.
Cleveland's 11-game losing streak featured several late-inning meltdowns, including consecutive blown saves by closer Chris Perez, and multiple changes to the roster. Pitchers Derek Lowe and Jeremy Accardo were cut, reliever Frank Herrmann was recalled from Columbus and the Indians have added two new starters to the rotation: Corey Kluber and Chris Seddon. The 25-man roster now includes 13 pitchers and just three bench players.
The Indians rank 13th in the American League with a 4.74 team ERA, just ahead of Minnesota (4.77), and opponents are hitting .265 against Cleveland pitching this season.
