Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez has a strained shoulder and could be lost for up to a month.
The All-Star will be shut down from throwing for the next week to 10 days, the Indians announced via Twitter on Friday. They're hoping he can pitch again in three to four weeks.
The right-hander also was hurt last year during spring training when he pulled a muscle in his side. He went to post 39 saves in 2012, giving him 98 the past three seasons.
The injury will keep Perez from pitching for the U.S. team in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
