Senior center Josh Crittle ignited a late comeback, scoring Illinois-Chicago's final six points in a 60-57 come-from-behind victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay on Thursday night at the UIC Pavilion.
With the Flames trailing 57-54, Crittle hit a jumper with 1:07 left in regulation, connected on two free throws with 16 seconds left for a 58-57 lead and added two insurance foul shots with two seconds remaining.
The Flames (14-8, 5-4) extended their Horizon League winning streak to three and moved to 1 1/2 games behind first-place Valparaiso as Hayden Humes scored 18 points, Crittle 15 and Gary Talton 10.
Keifer Sykes topped the Phoenix (11-11, 5-4) with 18 points, Brennan Cougill had 11 and Greg Mays 10.
Illinois-Chicago led 28-26 at halftime and opened the second half with nine straight points for a 37-26 advantage. Green Bay chipped away at the deficit and took a 57-54 lead on Alec Brown's 3-pointer with 1:41 to play.
The victory gave the Flames a series split and they improved to 9-1 at home. Green Bay beat Illinois-Chicago 53-47 on Jan. 12.
Green Bay continues its Windy City tour Saturday at Loyola and Illinois-Chicago plays host to Cleveland State. The Flames travel to league-leading Valparaiso next Tuesday.
