Jairus Brents is in New York City competing in the Hershey National Youth Indoor Championship this weekend fresh off winning the Kentucky state indoor title in the 55-meter dash last weekend, clocking in at 6.52. On Friday afternoon, Brents won his heat in the 55-meter dash preliminaries by running a 6.58.

This morning he beat his KY state title time of 6.52 by a hundredth of a second, posting a 6.51 to win the 55-Meter 2017 Hershey USATF Youth Indoor Championship in NYC.
Brents' track achievements are remarkable per se, but the fact he is a football player who runs track as a hobby makes all of this even more impressive. He is only in his second year of organized track competition and still has his Senior season ahead of him. He told KyPreps that he actually should have run faster than his 6.51, he wasn't satisfied with his start, and his goal for next year is to run a 6.35.
