Hampton rallies to defeat Howard 57-55

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) Mike Tuitt converted a three-point play in the final seconds to give Hampton a 57-55 comeback win over Howard on Saturday night.

Tuitt, who scored 20 points, hit a jumper and a free throw with 9 seconds remaining. Howard's Brandon Ford missed a 3-pointer with 1 second left.

Howard led by 11 points in the first half and held a 54-50 lead with 1:04 to play.

A layup by Danny Agbelese cut Hampton's deficit to 54-52 with 46 seconds remaining. After a free throw by Howard's Glen Andrews, Tuitt made two free throws to pull Hampton to within 55-54 with 22 seconds left.

Simuel Frazier added 11 for the Pirates (6-9, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have won five in a row against Howard.

Andrews scored 23 and Frazier chipped in with 11 for the Bison (4-13, 1-3), who shot only 28 percent (14 of 50) from the field.
