New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski needs surgery on his back and could be sidelined into July.
NFL Network reported Gronkowski and the Patriots anticipated he'd require the surgery. The expectation is Gronkowski will be out for at least a portion of training camp.
It will be the fifth surgery for Gronkowski since November 2012. On May 20, he had surgery to install a plate in his broken left arm.
Gronkowski fractured his forearm last November.
Gronkowski is expected to have back surgery during the offseason as well. That surgery might have been tied to the results of the arm surgery. But the clearing of the infection in May allowed Gronkowski to move forward with the back procedure.
