Good news, Atlanta Braves fans. If you forget your glove at home or happen to be in the market for new leather next season, the team will be able to help you out.
On Wednesday, the Braves announced a new multi-year, multifaceted partnership with locally based company Mizuno USA. The deal includes sponsorship opportunities and a unique retail element, as Mizuno will be pioneering multiple first-of-its-kind baseball glove kiosks inside SunTrust Park. This will allow fans to sample new state-of-the-art gloves, bring them into the game to improve their chances to catch some souvenirs, before returning the glove to a station following the game.
Basically, it’s like renting a pair of bowling shoes, only these gloves will be much fancier and the entire process will be free of charge.
Obviously, there’s a big marketing opportunity here for Mizuno, as fans will be able to give the product a test run. If the glove itself is top quality as the company believes, they should have no trouble attracting new customers through this unique business venture.
“The Atlanta Braves are one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports, and this opportunity will enable us to showcase our passion and our values to fans across Braves Country,” Bob Puccini, Mizuno USA president, stated on Wednesday. “While Mizuno’s Japanese heritage goes back 110 years, we are proud to call Atlanta home to our U.S. operations for more than 30 years. This partnership will give us the opportunity to continue to invest in and support the various causes and events that make this city such a great place while also solidifying Mizuno as the premium performance sports brand based in Atlanta.”
As noted, there will be multiple locations throughout SunTrust Park, which will be open for business beginning in 2017. It’s also reported stations will be set up in the adjacent development known as The Battery Atlanta, which will also open in 2017.
“Mizuno has long been the model for innovation and excellence, both in its approach to its craft and in equipment the company produces,” said Derek Schiller, Atlanta Braves president, business. “As we prepare to open a new chapter at SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta, we were looking to build and grow partnerships with companies that shared our vision and values. Mizuno’s commitment to success matches our own, and we’re excited for how this partnership will enhance the fan experience beginning in 2017.”
The partnership is brilliant idea for both sides. The glove sampling idea itself is also genius. It’s shocking no one else has come up with some variation of this idea in the past, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see it catch on other places now that the ball is rolling.
