Former Dallas Cowboys kicker David Buehler joined another team in the same division, signing Wednesday with the New York Giants.
Buehler had a three-year stint with the Cowboys from 2009-11, though he served as Dallas' placekicker only in 2010. He was a kickoff specialist throughout the 2009 season and in four of the first nine games in 2011 before he sustained a season-ending hip injury.
He didn't play in the NFL last year following hip surgery in December 2011.
During his lone season as a field-goal kicker, Buehler made 24 of 32 attempts, with a long of 53 yards.
Buehler, 26, led the league in touchbacks on kickoffs during his rookie season. In his career, he has a 34.3 percent rate of achieving touchbacks.
The Cowboys selected Buehler in the fifth round of the 2009 draft out of USC.
Veteran Lawrence Tynes has kicked for the Giants for the past six seasons. He went 33-for-39 on field-goal attempts in 2012, with a long of 50 yards.
