Giants Scutaro's status unknown for Game 3

San Francisco Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro is traveling with the team to St. Louis, but his status for Wednesday's Game 3 of the NLCS has not been announced.

Scutaro sustained a strained left hip when Cardinals' Matt Holliday took him out with a controversial slide in Game 2 of the NLCS Monday night.

Scutaro hit a two-run single in the fourth inning before leaving the game in the fifth inning of the Giants' 7-1 win. The series is tied at one win apiece.

Initial X-rays were negative, but Scutaro also had an MRI Monday night and traveled with the team to St. Louis.

Although opinions varied on the legality of the slide, Giants' manager Bruce Bochy left no doubt about his perspective.

"I really think they got away with an illegal slide there," Bochy said. "That rule was changed a while back. And he didn't realy hit dirt until he was past the bag. Marco was behind the bag and got smoked."
