Giants Get By Diamondbacks 9-8
San Francisco extinguished any chances of a final rally to survive Arizona, 9-8. Seven different Giants scored at least once in the win. Arizona left 11 runners on base.
With the Diamondbacks down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Miguel Montero and Mark Trumbo came home on a single by Gerardo Parra off starter Madison Bumgarner. Later that inning, Aaron Hill knocked in Parra and Chris Owings with a double to push the score to 4-1. Tied 7-7 in the top of the ninth, the Giants moved in front for good when Buster Posey rocked Addison Reed for a two-run shot, scoring Brandon Belt.
Bumgarner (0-0) pitched four innings, earning a no-decision while giving up no runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Sergio Romo collected his first save of the season in one inning of work after allowing one run on two hits, punching out one, and walking no one. Reed (0-1) got the loss, pitching one inning and allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout and no walks. Belt was terrific at the plate for the Giants, going 3 for 5 with a home run, three runs, and an RBI. Posey also had great output, going 2 for 5 with a home run, a run, and two RBIs. Montero finished 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs, an RBI, and a walk in the loss.
The Giants will play the Diamondbacks again Tuesday at Chase Field at 6:40 PM MST.
