New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz reportedly is expected to become the latest Big Apple sports star to sign with rapper Jay Z's new sports agency.
The New York Daily News citied two NFL sources as saying Cruz will sign with Roc Nation Sports, which was founded by Shawn (Jay-Z) Carter and is associated with Creative Artists Agency.
Earlier this week, New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano fired agent Scott Boras and signed with Roc Nation. Cano is in the final year of a six-year, $57 million contract and reportedly declined a sizable extension in February.
According to multiple reports, Jay-Z intends to become a certified agent who will represent professional athletes and push their cross-over marketing interests.
Last month, Cruz fired agent Malik Shareef and signed with CAA's Tom Condon. Shareef was unable to come to a multi-year agreement with the Giants for Cruz.
Cruz, who became known as the salsa-dancing wide receiver for his light-footed touchdown celebrations, is one of the NFL's biggest celebrities. He is expected to have Condon represent him in football matters, but use Jay Z's group to diversify his talents. He already has appeared at the Grammy Awards and has turned down an offer to compete on "Dancing with the Stars."
