SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants always seem to play close games and this was no exception. It just took more than nine innings.
Pinch hitter Hector Sanchez sent home a sellout crowd of 41,796 happy on an RBI single with the bases loaded as the Giants beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 11 innings on Sunday.
Buster Posey singled to lead off the 11th inning, and pinch runner Emmanuel Burriss advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Angel Pagan. Brandon Belt was intentionally walked and then Ryan Theriot was walked unintentionally to load the bases before Sanchez's RBI single.
Aramis Ramirez drove in two runs for the Brewers with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
In the ninth, the Brewers scored the tying run. Corey Hart reached on a fielding error by third baseman Conor Gillaspie. With two outs and two strikes, former Giant Travis Ishikawa doubled to left-center off closer Santiago Casilla to score Hart.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth inning to force extra innings.
Giants starter Matt Cain pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out 10, but for the third time in six outings, he got no decision.
Brewers starter Shawn Marcum went six innings, giving up five hits and three runs. Marcum has not won since his first outing on April 9 at Chicago.
Milwaukee took advantage of a leadoff walk to Nyger Morgan in the first inning. After Morgan stole second, Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun failed to bring Morgan home. With two outs, Ramirez came through with a bloop single to right field.
But the Giants responded in similar fashion. Gregor Blanco walked, and he scored on a double off the wall in right field by Gillaspie. Gillaspie would advance to third on a single by Melky Cabrera, and he scored on a fielder's choice groundout by Pagan to go ahead 2-1.
Pagan extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a double to leadoff the 4th inning. Pagan scored on a single by Theriot.
In the sixth, the Brewers got a one-out double to right center by Rickie Weeks. After an infield single from Braun, Weeks scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramirez.
Cain pitched out of a jam in his final inning of work. Jonathan Lucroy singled and advanced to second on a bunt single by Cesar Izturis. But Cain would strike out pinch hitter George Kottaras and Morgan to end the frame.
