Minnesota Vikings quarterback Josh Freeman is a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Christian Ponder was already named the starter on Friday. He will be backed up by Matt Cassel.
Freeman was signed by the Vikings in early October and started the Oct. 21 game against the New York Giants. He missed last week's game against the Green Bay Packers with a concussion, but he was healthy during this past week.
It is not clear if the Vikings have quickly lost faith in Freeman or if they simply want to give him more time to learn the playbook.
Freeman went 20-for-53 passing for 190 yards, no touchdowns and an inception in the 23-7 loss to the Giants.
Ponder is 0-4 as a starter this season, but the Vikings scored at least 24 points in each of his starts.
In the Vikings' 44-31 loss to the Packers, Ponder was 14 of 21 for 145 yards with no touchdowns.
