Former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Larry Grant was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the 2013 season because of a violation of the NFL's banned substances policy.
The Sacramento Bee reported the violation is related to performance-enhancing drugs.
Grant worked out for the New England Patriots on Thursday but teams haven't shown strong interest in signing the 28-year-old inside linebacker. He previously met with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Grant was used sparingly on defense last season as the backup to Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman, widely considered the top linebacker tandem in the NFL.
