Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver Dario Franchitti was released from Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston Thursday, IndyCar announced.
Franchitti is traveling to Indianapolis where he will be reevaluated over the next few days and will eventually have a second surgery to his right ankle, which was previously stabilized.
Franchitti was taken to the hospital after suffering injuries from a crash on the last lap of Sunday's Shell-Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston. He sustained a concussion, two spinal fractures and a fracture to his right ankle.
"I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and I'm thankful to have such a great family and such wonderful friends and fans," Franchitti said in a statement. "Thanks to everyone at the hospital and the track who took such good care of me during my stay in Houston."
