Former Rutgers athletics director Tim Pernetti is taking a new job as an executive with a Major League Soccer expansion team, Bloomberg News reported Friday.
An official announcement is expected next week from the New York-based MLS franchise, founded in May by the New York Yankees and Manchester United of the English Premier League, that is expected to begin play in the 2015 season at a yet-to-be-determined home. Pernetti will be the the club's chief business officer, according to the report.
Pernetti resigned at Rutgers, his alma mater, in April after video surfaced of former Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice abusing players during practice.
