Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis used to climb over offensive linemen to reach opposing quarterbacks. Now, Lewis has embarking on a different climb to raise awareness for clean water projects in Africa.
The two-time Super Bowl champion departed Wednesday for a trek to the 19,340 foot summit of Mt, Kilimanjaro, the continent's highest point. The team, which includes former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris and Doug Pitt, the brother of Hollywood actor Brad Pitt and the goodwill ambassador to the country, expects to complete its quest at some point Sunday.
The mission is called TackleKili and was initiated to benefit WorldServe International.
Before leaving, the party visited a local village to provide hearing aids to local children. Lewis was touched by the experience.
"To give someone hearing for the 1st time in their life is Life changing," he posted Wednesday on his Twitter account.
