Former PBR champ McBride riding in richest rodeo

Two-time PBR world champion Justin McBride has accepted an exemption invitation to compete in the bull riding event in the richest one-day rodeo next year.

Organizers of The American announced McBride's entry Wednesday, guaranteeing him one of the 17 spots for the bull riding competition.

McBride was the first western sports athlete to top more than $5 million in career earnings. He retired from the Professional Bull Riders circuit in 2008.

Six-time bronc riding world champion Dan Mortensen previously accepted an invitation. He is also coming out of retirement for the March 2 event at the Dallas Cowboys' stadium.

The rodeo that will have potential purse of $2 million, which each rodeo event paying $100,000 for first place and qualifiers entitled to share in a $1 million side purse.
