Former Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers safety Chris Harris announced through Twitter on Saturday night that he is retiring.
Harris had 16 interceptions and forced 14 fumbles over the span of his career.
"After 8 awesome yrs in the NFL I'm deciding to retire," he wrote. "This was one heck of a ride and I've been extremely blessed to have played this game."
Harris, a former sixth-round draft pick who also played for the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars, had his most productive season in 2007 with the Panthers when he forced eight fumbles.
