Flyers' Meszaros out indefinitely after Achilles surgery

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros has undergone surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday.

This in another blow to the Flyers defense. Captain Chris Pronger, who is still suffering post-concussion symptoms, may not be back anytime soon, and they lost Matt Carle via free agency to the Tampa Bay Lightning this offseason.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren provided no timetable for Meszaros' return.

"We'll have a better idea after six weeks and once we see how things are progressing," Holmgren said, according to NHL.com.

The surgery was performed Tuesday for an injury that occurred last week during Meszaros' summer training in Slovakia.

Meszaros, 26, had seven goals and 18 assists while playing 62 games for the Flyers last season, which was his seventh NHL season.
