Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux underwent surgery Thursday on his right index finger that was injured in a golf accident in Ottawa.
The Flyers said in a statement that the 25-year-old forward was injured when a club shattered and splintered into his index finger. He suffered damage to tendons but no broken bones and is expected to be out for five to six weeks.
Giroux's recovery likely will sideline him for at least a portion of the preseason, but he is projected to be back in time for the start of the regular season in October.
In 48 regular-season games last season, Giroux had 13 goals and 35 assists.
