Florida All-American cornerback Jalen Tabor and tight end C’yontai Lewis have been suspended, coach Jim McElwain announced via the school’s website.

Both players will be barred from practices and team activities, and will not participate in the season opener against UMass.

“Both C’yontai and Jalen will not be involved with the team or practice due to behavior that is not acceptable,” McElwain said. “By no means are these bad guys and yet consequences have been handed down. We will not look the other way when it comes to breaking of team policies.”

Tabor’s suspension is especially interesting considering he’s been sort of a team ambassador this offseason. He’s been one of the Gators’ most outspoken players on social media and even participated in an athletic association sponsored media day in New York.

Tabor had 18 pass breakups and became the first defensive back since Brandon Spikes to return two interceptions for touchdowns last season.

“I want to echo what I said earlier, these are both fine young men who will learn and be stronger from their actions. They will also be suspended for the first game. There are life lessons in everything we do. We will be better because of it and no one person is bigger than the Florida Gators.”
