Florida State lineman gets SEC championship ring

Former Florida State offensive lineman Menelik Watson became the first Seminole to earn an SEC championship ring -- sort of.

On Wednesday, Watson received a package with what he thought was his ACC championship ring. But to his surprise, the ring was inscribed with the words "2012 SEC Champions."

"I couldn't believe it when I opened up the package," Watson told ESPN. "I feel privileged, and I feel slighted at the same time, but hey, I'm one in a million. I guess the ring guy was making too many and either fell asleep at the machine or he must be an SEC fan. Somebody's got some 'splainin' to do.

"It's really nice. It just says SEC on it."

Florida State beat Georgia Tech 21-15 last year to claim the school's first ACC championship since 2005. On its way to the national championship, Alabama marched through the SEC to claim that league's title.

According to an FSU spokesman, the other rings that have been distributed do not have the same error.

"The other ones they've looked at are right," said FSU spokesman Elliott Finebloom. "It's 100-something rings. They don't go through and open every box and inspect them. They assume that if the ones they've given out are right, they're all going to be right. ... There's no report of anybody else's being wrong."
