Florida Gulf Coast beats Samford 86-62

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Sherwood Brown scored 22 points and Bernard Thompson added 21 points and eight rebounds as Florida Gulf Coast beat Samford 86-62 Wednesday night in nonconference action.

Chase Fieler chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds, and Filip Cvjeticanin added 12 points off the bench for Florida Gulf Coast (5-3).

Florida Gulf Coast took a commanding lead early opening the game on a 20-5 run. The Eagles led at halftime 34-24.

Samford (1-7) would get within 8 points in the second half, 34-26, but the Eagles would push the lead to double figures for the rest of the game.

Florida Gulf Coast shot 57.1 percent (16 for 28) in the second half to blow out Samford.

The Eagles dominated the Bulldogs on the glass, outrebounding Samford 44-25 for the game.

Raijon Kelly led the Bulldogs with 13 points.
