SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) -- Fashion Alert emerged from a speed duel with Take Charge Brandi to pull clear and win the Grade 3 $150,000 Schuylerville on opening day Friday at Saratoga Race Course.
Fashion Alert was favored in a field of five 2-year-old fillies and won by 1 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:11.78 for six furlongs. Take Charge Brandi was a decisive second, 7 3/4 lengths ahead of Tulira's Star in third.
Trained by Todd Pletcher for owners George Hall and Barry Hall, Fashion Alert ran her record to 2-0 with her second stakes victory, following the June 14 Astoria in her career debut. She paid $2.40, $2.10 and $2.10, while Take Charge Brandi returned $3.40 and $2.20. Tulira's Star paid $2.40.
It was the fifth career Schuylerville victory for Pletcher, a 10-time Saratoga training champion who also won the race in 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2011.
