Falcons backup QB Davis describes his play as 'horrible'

The Atlanta Falcons are a team that has nearly everything you would want in a Super Bowl contender.

Except a proven backup quarterback. After investing plenty in Matt Ryan and assuming that he will once again stay healthy through the season, the Falcons have very little experience behind him.

Currently, their second-string quarterback is Dominique Davis, an undrafted free agent in 2012 from East Carolina. In the preseason opener against the Bengals, Davis was less than spectacular, even by his own admission. He went 8 of 19 for 78 yards with one TD and a costly interception.

“I’m my biggest critic, and I think I played horrible," Davis told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Those numbers and Davis' statement don't exactly inspire confidence should something happen with Ryan. The Falcons had better hope that Ryan stays in one piece, and that Davis improves in a hurry.
