Falcons announce Julio Jones is out for the season

After losing four of thier first five games, the Atlanta Falcons have come to grips with more bad news.

Star wide receiver Julio Jones is out for the season and will undergo surgery on his foot and be placed on injured reserve after receiving a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson.

“Unfortunately, Julio’s appointment with the doctor today confirmed our initial findings,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said in a statement. “He is scheduled to have a season-ending procedure on Monday.”

This news is hard to take for a reeling Falcons squad that entered the season with high expectations.

"Very disappointed," Falcons owner Arthur Blank told USA Today. "You know, when it rains, it pours. In this case, we're having a monsoon right now in Atlanta.

"We're disappointed. He's a great player, a great human being. But you know the slogan and the philosophy in the NFL is 'Next man, up.' "The injury bug is real. We've had our share this year."
