GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- East Carolina used a 12-0 run midway in the second half to overcome Norfolk State in a 74-63 victory on Saturday.
Maurice Kemp scored 23 points, his third straight game with 20 or more. Miguel Paul added 19, and Robert Sampson had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Pirates (8-3), who are 7-0 at home.
Pendarvis Williams had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Rashid Gaston scored 12 for the Spartans (6-9), who have lost four in a row.
From a 48-44 advantage, the Pirates' Sampson's layup made it 60-44 with 7:30 remaining in the game. Kemp contributed two jumpers and a layup, and Shamarr Bowden made a 3-pointer.
East Carolina shot 49 percent from the field (24 of 49) to Norfolk State's 35.8 percent (24 of 67), and the Pirates made 21 of 26 from the line versus the Spartans' 11 of 17.
