Maryland has started its 2018 class off like it did its 2017 class, with a local commitment. Defensive end/outside linebacker Durell Nchami from Burtonsville (Md.) Paint Branch announced his commitment on Monday night.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…
"I just felt like Maryland didn't just love me as a player," Nchami said. "The new coaching staff, coach Durkin, coach Barnes, coach Brumbaugh, everyone there I enjoy on a personal level. I just thought I was ready to stay home and make a name for myself.
"They said that sometimes I'll be rushing the passer at BUCK or dropping in coverage like a SAM," he said. "I'll be something like a hybrid. I think I fit in well. They just said I should keep working and gaining good weight.
"I'm going to try my best to get some people join the party," said Nchami. "I'm not sure who I'm going to target yet but I'll figure it out. I saw how the 2017 class worked.
"I'm going to try to get there this week or next week," he said. "Pittsburgh wants me to go up there next weekend on March 25th."
RIVALS' REACTION
By all accounts Maryland blew away all expectations with their 2017 class but the one position they really score on was defensive end, specifically the BUCK linebacker position. The BUCK is a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end position that Nchami fits almost perfectly. He is a long, athletic prospect with good pass rushing abilities but also has the skillset to drop into coverage. More schools will likely come after Nchami but he has favored the Terps ever since they offered him back in January.
