Sophomore guard Damion Lee scored 34 points, propelling Drexel to an 81-77 victory over Old Dominion in a Colonial Athletic Association game Thursday at Norfolk, Va.
Lee finished 11 of 14 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds for Drexel (12-17, 8-9 CAA), which had lost two in a row and three of four. Senior center DeShawn Painter had 15 points and nine rebounds for Old Dominion (4-25, 2-15), which has lost 15 of its last 17.
Lee scored eight points in the first 2:41, helping Drexel race out to an 11-2 lead. Old Dominion cut the deficit to five when Dimitri Batten made a 3-pointer to make it 16-11 with 9:32 to play in the opening period, but the Dragons responded with a 9-1 run to extend their lead to 13.
Lee got hot again late in the half, making four consecutive 3-pointers over a span of 2:09 to put Drexel up 31-17 with 5:14 remaining. Lee finished the half with 24 points.
Old Dominion rallied in the second half to cut Drexler's lead to two in the final minute, but the Dragons held on for the victory.
