Drake outlasts Nebraska-Omaha 88-80

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Richard Carter scored a game-high 23 points, and grabbed 11 rebounds, to lead five Drake players in double figures in an 88-80 win over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday.

Drake (3-1) took a 55-54 lead with 9:53 left on a Carter layup and never trailed the rest of the way. But Nebraska-Omaha (3-3) kept the game close, and was within two points at the 6:18 mark on a Matt Hagerbaumer dunk. But Gary Ricks Jr. responded with a 3-pointer and the Bulldogs held on down the stretch, going 8 for 10 at the line in the final 1:01.

Aaron Hawley scored 14 points for Drake. Seth VanDeest and Ricks added 13 points apiece and Chris Caird scored 12.

Devin Patterson and CJ Carter had 17 points apiece for the Mavericks. Hagerbaumer scored nine points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.
