Dirk Nowitzki finished with 28 points and recorded 9 rebounds to help the Dallas Mavericks beat the Detroit Pistons, 116-106. The Mavericks were on fire in this game, finishing 43-74 (58.1%). Dallas (26-20) gets one in the win column after losing to Brooklyn on Friday.
Nowitzki finished 10-16 from the field (3-5 on 3-pointers) and 5-5 from the free throw line, in a quality performance offensively. Devin Harris also contributed for Dallas, finishing with 14 points and 7 assists. Brandon Jennings had another big game for Detroit in the loss, scoring 26 points on 10-18 shooting (2-5 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 4-8 from the free throw line. He also added 7 assists. Josh Smith added 25 points and 8 rebounds and Greg Monroe finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds.
Like the metrics suggested, the sweet-stroking offense of Dallas was able to scorch the nets (62.8% eFG%) against the bottom-tier defense of Detroit, which ranks worst in the league in eFG% defense at 52.1%. The Mavericks recorded a FTA rate of 37.8 to go alongside their 62.8% eFG%. They are undefeated (3-0) on the season when eclipsing 35.0 and 55% in those respective offensive factors. The Pistons, however, are winless (0-4) when allowing opponents to reach those thresholds.
Detroit (17-27) has now lost four consecutive games.
Coming up, the Mavericks square off with the Houston Rockets, who are 29-17 on the season. The Pistons go up against the Orlando Magic, currently sitting at 12-33 this year. The Mavericks emerged victorious each of the last two times against Houston. The Pistons have a 0-1 record against Orlando this season.
