Diamondbacks Allow Giants to Sneak By 9-8

Miguel Montero went 3-4 with one home run but the Diamondbacks dropped the game to San Francisco, 9-8. The Diamondbacks let seven different players score at least once in the loss. Arizona left 11 men on base.

Behind 1-0, the Diamondbacks were able to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Montero and Mark Trumbo came in on a single by Gerardo Parra off starter Madison Bumgarner. Later that same inning, Aaron Hill hit a double, bringing in Parra and Chris Owings to make it 4-1. Tied 7-7 in the top of the ninth, the Giants moved in front to stay when Buster Posey homered off Addison Reed, scoring Brandon Belt.

Brandon McCarthy (0-0) worked 6 2/3 innings and picked up a no-decision after he surrendered five runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Working one inning in relief, Reed (0-1) was charged with his first loss of the year, surrendering two runs on two hits while fanning one and walking no one. Jean Machi (1-0) picked up the victory, pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up no runs on one hit with three strikeouts and no walks. Montero gave a standout performance at the plate for the Diamondbacks, going 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs, an RBI, and a walk. Trumbo also had a great game, going 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs. Belt went 3 for 5 with a home run, three runs, and an RBI in the win.

The Diamondbacks will take on the Giants again Tuesday at Chase Field at 6:40 PM MST.
