The New Jersey Devils sent 19-year-old left winger Stefan Matteau back to his junior hockey league club on Sunday.
Matteau played in 17 games with New Jersey this season, scoring one goal and adding two assists, but the team assigned him to Blainsville-Boisbriand team so that he will be eligible to play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.
Matteau was the 29th overall pick by the Devils in the 2012 NHL entry draft. He will be eligible to return to the Devils or be assigned to the AHL's Albany River Rats after Blainsville-Boisbriand's playoffs are over.
Matteau is the son of former NHL forward Stephane Matteau who was a member of the New York Rangers' Stanley Cup winning team in 1994. Matteau is currently an assistant coach with the Blainville-Boisbriand and will be reunited with his son this week.
