New Jersey Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk could miss two to four weeks with a shoulder injury, general manager Lou Lamoriello said Sunday.
Kovalchuk was hurt Saturday night in the third period of a 2-1 win over Florida when he crashed into the end boards and came up holding the shoulder.
"It's not an operative situation," Lamoriello told reporters, according to The Bergen Record. "It's a shoulder injury. As I said, it could be two (weeks), it could be four, it could be less, certainly not more."
With winger Alexei Ponikarovsky on injured reserve and Kovalchuk sidelined. the Devils called up left winger Marri Pesonen from Albany of the American Hockey League on Sunday.
Kovalchuk ranks second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 27 points.
The Devils are fighting for a playoff spot while battling a rash of injuries, currently standing seventh in the Eastern Conference with 36 points.
