DAYTON -- Dayton withstood an early Florida Atlantic run and rolled to a 81-56 victory over the Owls on Saturday night.
The Flyers (8-2) trailed 12-8 less than five minutes into the game when the visitors (5-5) went on a 12-0 run.
But Dayton, which had scored the first eight points of the game, responded with an 18-2 surge to assume a 26-14 lead with 8:49 left in the first half.
Their gap was double digits the rest of the way.
FAU did cut a 17-point deficit to 10 at 41-31 on freshman guard Cavon Baker's jumper with 15:17 left in the game. But the Flyers outscored the Owls 10-2 and were back up 51-33 at the 11:42 mark and coasted from there.
Dayton put four players in double figures, led by forward Matt Derenbecker with 15 points off the bench.
Guard Greg Gantt continued his recent hot scoring with 26 points. He has averaged 26.7 points in his last six games.
Florida Atlantic shot only 30.2 percent from the field to Dayton's 46.8 percent.
