MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- Stacy Davis scored a career-high 24 points and Brendan Lane grabbed 14 rebounds as Pepperdine took on NAIA school San Diego Christian, 81-68 Saturday night.
Davis made 69.2 percent (9 of 13) of his field goals and the Waves finished 52.5 percent (31 of 59) as a team in their season opener. Lane's debut at Pepperdine ended with 12 points, seven blocks and 14 rebounds after transferring from UCLA and redshirting last year. Six of the nine Waves who scored in the first half were making their Pepperdine debut.
SDCC hung in with the Waves at the half, tying the score at 35. Andy Saharan led the Hawks in their exhibition game with 22 points. SDCC shot better percentages in both 3-pointers (35.7 percent compared to 22.2 for the Waves) and free throws (83.3 percent compared to 71.4) but trailed in field goals, finishing with 39.3 percent.
