Dave Rogers named technical director for Joe Gibbs Racing's Xfinity teams
Former Cup Series crew chief Dave Rogers has a new role at Joe Gibbs Racing.
Rogers started the 2017 season as Daniel Suarez’s crew chief but took a leave of absence from the team in March for undisclosed personal reasons. Monday, the team announced that Rogers would be its new Xfinity Series technical director. JGR fields three cars in the Xfinity Series.
“I really appreciate the support I’ve received over the past couple of months allowing me to take care of what I needed to in my personal life,” Rogers said in a statement. “This position really excites me and I’m looking forward to working with [Joe Gibbs Racing Vice President Steve deSouza, our crew chiefs and everyone in our Xfinity Series shop on all aspects of competition.”
Rogers was replaced as the crew chief of the No. 19 by Scott Graves, who worked with Suarez in the Xfinity Series as he won the title in 2016.
Rogers served as Carl Edwards’ crew chief in 2016 as Edwards was one of the four drivers racing for the Cup title at Homestead in November. He’s also worked with JGR drivers Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin and won races with each of them.
