The Chicago Cubs signed 33-year-old right-hander Jose Veras on a one-year, $4 million deal Tuesday. There is also reportedly a $5.5 million option for 2015 along with incentives.
Veras went 0-5 with a 3.02 ERA with the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers this season. He earned 19 saves for the Astros and was mainly used as a setup man during the Tigers stretch run.
The deal, which comes one day after the Cubs officially signed left-handed reliever Wesley Wright to a one-year, $1.425 million contract, is contingent on Veras passing a physical.
