GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Steve Sullivan sent the game into overtime with a goal late in the third period and scored the only shootout goal and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 5-4 on Saturday at Jobing.Com Arena.
Mike Smith made 31 saves in regulation and overtime then stopped Nick Bonino, Corey Perry and Saku Koivu in succession in the shootout as the Coyotes (10-8-3) won for the second time in three games.
Lauri Korpikoski scored a pair of goals and Matthew Lombardi also scored for the Coyotes, who were playing the first of three straight games against Anaheim.
Andrew Cogliano recorded his second career hat trick -- both on the road against the Coyotes -- and Koivu also scored for the Ducks, who lost for only the second time in 10 games.
Koivu broke a 3-3 tie when he took a pass from Bobby Ryan between the circles and beat Mike Smith with three seconds left in a goaltender interference penalty against Kyle Chipchura.
Replays showed Cogliano literally had a hand in the goal's setup, pushing Chipchura into Anaheim goaltender Viktor Fasth from behind.
But Sullivan evened the game at 4-all when he scored on a long rebound to the right of the net for his first goal in 14 games.
Cogliano needed just 21 seconds to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead, one-timing a shot from the left doorstop off a pass from Koivu.
Lombardi tied the game at 10:30 of the period. Raffi Torres' initial shot from the left baseball circle bounced off the back boards to Lombardi, who bounced a shot off Fasth's chest from the right side of the crease.
Korpikoski made it 2-1 at 12:32 of the second but Cogliano answered 27 seconds later when he took a long outlet pass from Ben Jovejoy and scored from the right faceoff circle.
Cogliano completed the natural hat trick at 17:26 after Daniel Winnik pushed Derek Morris off the puck to Smith's left.
Korpikoski scored his second 16 seconds into the third period, tying the game at 3-3.
