The cover32 staff participated in a one-round consensus mock draft for the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft.
With the 29th overall pick, the staff elected to draft offensive guard Forrest Lamp out of Western Kentucky to the Packers.
The move to draft Lamp would come in the aftermath of losing two offensive linemen in the offseason in T.J Lang and J.C. Tretter.
Lamp could potentially fill in at the starting guard spot as Lang bolted for the rival Detroit Lions.
As all football fans known drafting an offensive lineman at any point in the draft is never a sexy pick. Let alone in the first round.
Another thing all football fans know, however, is how important the line is to the team’s success.
In the case of the Packers, they have an all-time great at the quarterback position and protecting him should be a top priority.

The versatility of Lamp makes him appealing as he played most of his college snaps as a tackle, but is a guard prospect.
The Packers have been hit with many injuries on the line the past few seasons, a player that can play both positions may just be the perfect fit.
At the NFL Draft combine, Lamp impressed the scouts running 5.00 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Lamp does come in a little small at about 20 pounds lighter than Lang was for the Packers last season.
According to an anonymous AFC executive, when asked about Lamp, “He’s the real deal. If he can snap, you could get away with playing him all up and down the line. Great feet, strong, smart.”
If the Packers do indeed elect to draft an offensive guard with the first pick, the cover32 Packers fans may not be pleased, as only 15% approved the move. Nearly half of them prefer the team to draft a secondary player.
There are numerous different directions the team could go come draft time. Experts have mocked them to go anywhere from running back to defensive line and everything in between.
To find out the official pick, the 2017 NFL Draft will all start in Philadephia on April 27.
