If Jason Pierre-Paul didn’t get the message during the season, he should have received it by now: Show up for training camp in shape.
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin said that Pierre-Paul showed up at training camp overweight and said it took well into the second half of the season for him to reach his ideal number of 275 pounds, according to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post.
It affected Pierre-Paul’s performance on the field as he went from 16 ½ sacks in 2011 when the Giants won the Super Bowl to 6 ½.
“He didn’t play as well as the year before,” Coughlin. “He was big when he came to camp. There’s not a lot of body fat (with Pierre-Paul), yes, but still.”
