Convicted killer Erik Menendez moved to isolation after reportedly receiving pot-stuffed prison package

Convicted killer Erik Menendez was moved to an isolation unit Monday after California prison officials reportedly discovered a half-baked plan to send him marijuana behind bars.

The brother who is now serving time for the 1989 shotgun murders of his millionaire parents was the intended recipient of the pot-stuffed parcel sent to the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, TMZ.com reported Tuesday.

Prison officials intercepted the package and are now investigating whether or not Menendez was expecting its arrival, the website said.

“On Oct. 12, RJ Donovan Correctional Facility inmate Erik G. Menendez, 49, was rehoused in the Administrative Segregation Unit pending an investigation,” a spokeswoman with the California Department of Corrections told the New York Daily News on Tuesday.

“Because of the active investigation, no other information can be disclosed,” the spokeswoman said.

If Menendez was in on the dope delivery, prison officials reportedly want to know if he planned to distribute it behind bars or keep it for his own use.

Erik and his older brother Lyle, 52, are housed at the same prison after officials granted Lyle’s request to move him from another facility in 2018.

They are both serving life sentences without the possibility of parole for murdering parents Jose and Kitty Menendez as the couple watched TV inside their $5 million Beverly Hills estate on Aug. 20, 1989.

Prosecutors said the brother shot their record executive father, 45, multiple times in the head and initially only wounded Kitty, 47.

Lyle walked out to his car, reloaded his shotgun and then returned to shoot his mother several more times as she tried in vain to crawl away.

The brothers claimed they carried out the cold-blooded carnage after years of abuse, but prosecutors said they simply wanted their parents’ $14 million fortune.
