College football roundup: Shell can't go back to Pitt
Running back Rushel Shell won't be returning to Pittsburgh as he had hoped, according to multiple media outlets.,
Shell rushed for 641 yards for Pitt last season as a freshman and was expected to be the Panthers' featured back in 2013. However, he asked for his release in April and decided to transfer to UCLA.
But the star running back never enrolled at UCLA and instead recently asked the Pittsburgh coaching staff about returning to the Panthers. Shell is from nearby Aliquippa, Pa., and has twin daughters living in Pennsylvania. The Los Angeles Times reported that Shell changed his mind about UCLA because he thought he would be too far from his family.
However, Pitt has not provided an opportunity for Shell to return. According to a tweet from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Sam Werner, Pitt "never seriously entertained the option of Shell returning."
---The NCAA argued that documents in former USC assistant Todd McNair's defamation lawsuit against the association should remain sealed.
McNair and his attorneys want to unseal the documents that they believe show that the NCAA acted improperly during its investigation of USC that ended three years ago.
